Creative Clondalkin aiming to promote and encourage creativity
AHEAD of Creative Clondalkin rolling around again this year, the word is being spread far and wide for the artistic types of all ages to submit their creations under any of the several categories.
Through Creative Clondalkin, organisers are aiming to promote and encourage creativity not only in Clondalkin but also in the wider area.
A family fun day will be held on October 24 in Áras Chrónáin, with music from Local Vocals, as well as plenty of entertainment.
Categories include embroidery, quilting, photography, pottery, knitting, baking and jewellery-making, to name just a few.
An awards ceremony will take place at 3 pm to crown the most creative projects and applaud the amazing talent.
Mayor Francis Timmons is one of those encouraging the creatives to get involved in this year’s festivities, citing just some of the many talents that have roots in Clondalkin.
“In Clondalkin, we have a long history of creativity with artists like the late Johnathan Wade, the fabulous Jo Lawless and locals like Tommy Byrne.”
Mayor Timmons also pointed out the creative history that exists in the area, with the likes of photography and lacemaking just a sample of the creativity that has sprouted.
“We have the Clondalkin Camera Club that has produced excellent photographers, and we have a history of lacemaking going back generations. We need to keep creativity alive and encourage our younger citizens to carry on these strong traditions.”
The amateur competition is free to enter and is open to all levels of skill and age groups, starting as young as five.
