CRH Centre of Education planned for Belgard Castle

SOUTH Dublin County Council has received an application for a significant development on the grounds of Belgard Castle.

The application lodged by CRH Group Services Limited provides for a Centre of Education, Learning, Innovation and Collaboration to be built on the existing main car park and grounds maintenance facilities.

The proposed plans for the landscaped roof of the building include bio diverse planting, a reflection pool, paving and safety-related railings.

CRH Group are also seeking permission for the construction of a Learning Archive, which will be connected to the centre via an underground link and will be located between the coach house and castle’s annex building.

Belgard Castle is a protected structure, as acknowledged by CRH in their application.

The planning permission application also provides for an extensive landscape enhancement programme and the provision of a new internal access road and service delivery adjacent to the centre,

The proposed plans also provide for the removal of the front, two-storey section of the existing finance building to construct an entrance pavilion, the removal of an existing temporary security hut and the demolition and the removal of the existing machinery sheds and Demesne maintenance buildings.
