Crumlin leave it late against Kilnamanagh
DEFENDING Leinster Senior League Senior Division champions Crumlin United left it late to secure the match spoils against Kilnamanagh in Ned Kelly Park on Easter Sunday reports William O’Connor.
The travelling party scored a crucial late winner in injury time against an unlucky Kilnamanagh side to push them into mid-table in the league.
A goal with one of the last attacks of the match from Kenny Carr, after the hosts failed to clear their lines, proved to be the difference at the finish.
Up to that stage in the match, it was evenly balanced with both teams creating several half chances but failing to find the target.
Indeed, Crumlin keeper Kian Clarke made a vital save in the second half to keep Kilnamanagh at bay as they pushed for a winner.
However, with Crumlin’s centre halves Jack Funge and Calvin Rodgers soaking up the pressure, it was always difficult to find the target.
Crumlin did have their backs to the wall when they had a player sent to the line for a professional foul but to their credit they did hold their shape.
For Kilnamanagh, Richie English and Brian Condron did pose threats for Crumlin who did threaten going forward.
English worked hard for the winners and created half chances for Kilnamanagh but Crumlin under manager James Lee showed their experience to claim the victory.
It’s a real dogfight for Kilnamanagh at the wrong end of the table as they are battling it out with teams like Ballymun United and Malahide.
Despite being unlucky not to secure anything from this game, a couple of wins would push them back up into the safety zone in mid-table.
Kilnamanagh have no match this weekend while Crumlin go head to head with Wayside Celtic in what should be a tough battle.
