Crumlin lift Under 19 title

TWO first half goals from Cillian O’Brien and Evan O’Callaghan were enough for Crumlin United to secure the Leinster Senior League’s Under 19 South Division title as they won out 2-0 against Peamount United in Pearse Park on Sunday.

The win concluded an impressive campaign that saw Crumlin go the whole season unbeaten after registering nine wins from as many games.

Coming into the match-up, Jordan O’Neill had bagged 13 goals in the previous eight ties and, despite not getting on the scoresheet on Sunday, he still had a hand in the goals.

It took Crumlin just eight-minutes to unlock the Peamount backline when centre-forward Cillian O’Brien was sent through on goal and he did not hesitate to capitalise on the opening.

Under siege, the centre-back pairing of Jordan Conroy and Nikita Ignatyev held firm for the Greenogue lads in the face of Crumlin’s advances.

Despite the Peas working well as a unit, Crumlin had the solutions that enabled them to find pockets of space around the box and captain Evan O’Callaghan netted a second for his side as a result.

On the restart, Peamount went through the gears to try and salvage something from the game with Robbie Byrne holding his own in midfield after returning from injury.

Goalkeeper Luke Cullen did pull off a couple nice saves and their wingback Ross Collier was a constant threat down the left flank, but still, they could not find a way through the rigid Crumlin rearguard.

At the heart of that defence was strong centre-half Ben McCabe who was backed up by Favour Memuduaghan in between the posts, both playing a major part in their side maintaining a clean-sheet.

After virtually rebuilding their squad at the start of the season, Crumlin United manager John Livesey and assistant Larry Fox were seemingly up against it.

However, over the course of the season they were embroiled in a title chase with Larkview Boys and pipped them to the title on the final day of the season.

They had beaten Lark-view earlier in the cam- paign, but almost almost let it slip when they fell 3-4 behind against Cabinteely at the start of February.

But with just minutes of regulation time to play, Crumlin bagged two rapid-fire goals to run out 5-4 winners.
