Crunch test for Super Saints
ST PATRICK’S Athletic find themselves back in action this coming Friday for the first time in four weeks as they take on Shelbourne at Richmond Park, reports Michael Howley.
Pat’s last run out in the league saw them record a 1-0 win against Sligo Rovers, a run that has seen them win their last three games on the bounce.
That game was played on September 19th however and since then the landscape of the table has changed.
Shamrock Rovers have come back into form, picking up six points from their last two games was a worst case scenario for Pats who will now have to win all of their remaining games should they realistically have a chance of winning the overall title, barring a total Rovers collapse.
While the Saints had been riding a huge wave of momentum that will have stalled massively in the previous weeks and time will tell if they are able to pick up where they left off against a Shelbourne side that seem to be coming into their own under new boss John Russell.
They returned to action with a bang last weekend as they hammered Russell’s former employers Sligo Rovers 5-1, sentencing them to relegation.
It will be a make or break few days for the Saints as they face a lengthy trip to the Brandywell on Monday against a Derry City team flying high with a cup final on the horizon.
Coming away with six points from their last two games on Monday evening will be a huge undertaking but if they can manage it, they will be keeping themselves in with a shout at the title right until the bitter end.
