Cup delight for Davis Ladies
THOMAS Davis’ Senior Women’s side won the Division 1B Cup last weekend after a narrow 2-10 to 0-09 victory over Cuala at Kiltipper Road.
It was a very close game throughout the opening half with Davis managing a narrow lead heading into the break.
It would be their second half performance that took them over the line however with goals coming from Zara Flood and former Dublin Intercounty player Ciara McGuigan within a 15 mintue period to hand them a more sizable lead.
They would not relinquish this lead as the fixture wore on and saw out the game.
It was a superb team performance that won them the fixture on the day with particular standout performers including Sophie Palmer, Emma Phillips, Ciara Nugent and Goalkeeper Caitlin Staunton.
The game meant the end of the season for Davis who were delighted to get some silverware after what could be considered as a rebuilding year.
The side went about blooding in new talent after the retirement of two stalwart players, former Dublin intercounty mainstays Siobhan McGrath and Olwen Carey with often half of the team being under 20 years old.
Clearly there is a bright future for the team and they can take a well earned break now before beginning preparations for next year’s campaign.
