David to represent Toastmasters at the UK Districts competition

A LOCAL man has been selected to represent Tallaght Toastmasters in the UK and Ireland Toastmasters District 71 competition after recently winning the Area 26 Speech Evaluation Contest.

David Newmark, who grew up in Jobstown and now lives in Firhouse, joined Tallaght Toastmasters to hone his public speaking skills, which have gone from strength to strength.

He developed his skills after being put through his paces in Tallaght Toastmasters, as every speech receives an evaluation, with an evaluator’s comment by their general evaluator at every meeting.

As a result of his success in the Area 26 Evaluation Contest, Mr Newmark will now go on to represent the district at a high-level contest, where he will compete against other toastmasters from the UK and Ireland.

Explaining the impact that joining Tallaght Toastmaster has had on him, Mr Newmark said: “My time in Toastmasters has taught me one valuable lesson: there is nothing more powerful than somebody who is articulate, and who can think and speak.

“That’s true no matter who you are, or what your job is.”

Mr Newmark will compete in the Toastmasters District 71 competition in the coming weeks, and his success is also a point of pride for his fellow Tallaght Toastmasters.

John Conroy from Tallaght Toastmasters said: “Tallaght Toastmasters continues to go from strength to strength, and hopefully some more of our members will achieve these excellent standards in the coming years.”

Mr Conroy is a strong proponent of the positive effect of developing public speaking skills, and believes everyone can benefit from developing them – whether for their career, or for an upcoming wedding or public engagement – in a relaxed environment.

“Members can be assured they will not be forced to speak at meetings but can contribute when they feel they are ready,” he said.

“We encourage members to improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a fun, entertaining and informative environment.

“We provide a supportive and learning experience where members are empowered to develop their skill set, resulting in greater confidence and personal growth.

“We welcome new members at any time. We meet in St Kevin’s Family resource Centre in Kilnamanagh on Mondays. Meetings start at 7.45pm and finish at 10pm.”

If you want to attend your first free Tallaght Toastmasters meeting, with a charge of €5 per meeting for any attendances thereafter, contact the group via email at tallaghttoastmasters@gmail.com, on the Tallaght Toastmasters Facebook page, or call Mr Conroy on 087 416 0988.
