Davis clinch Division Six Féile crown

THOMAS Davis Under 14 footballers had to work hard to overcome St Peter’s 0-7 to 1-2 in the Division Six Féile Final in Blakes-town at the weekend.

The Kiltipper boys were down a number of players due to injuries picked up the previous day in the group stages, but they showed plenty of heart to see off St Peter’s.

The game started poorly for Davis, conceding two early point which were quickly followed by a St Peter’s penalty that was successfully converted.

Two more missed goal chances followed for St Peter’s as Thomas Davis had John Bosco to thank with two excellent saves.

Playing into a stiff breeze Karl McGill managed to settle Thomas Davis with two free kicks while a superb Kevin Mullarkey point from play left two points separating the teams at half time.

Despite the best efforts of St Peter’s, they could not break down the Thomas Davis defence in the second half.

Cian O’Malley was outstanding at centre back, with Recces McCormack, Oisin Horan and Oisin Downes all putting in huge shifts in the second half.

Two points apiece from Karl McGill and Kevin Mullarkey drew the sides level.

Thomas Davis tacked on two more points to see them take the lead.

A late push by St Peter’s in the closing moments of the game was thwarted by an inspirational Rory Byrne’s tackle and Thomas Davis lifted the title.

After a good string of performances in the qualifying group stages, Thomas Davis U14 football team progressed to a semi-final against Clanna Gael Fontenoy.

Two early goals by Evan Caffery help settle the team and push them to the final.
