THERE was a decrease of 456 in the numbers signing on the live register in October in the four social welfare offices in Tallaght, Nutgrove, Clondalkin and Ballyfermot.

In Tallaght, the total signing-on fell from 4,994 in September to 4,850 in October, a decrease of 144.

Among the under-25s there was a decrease of 69 with 684 signing on in September and 615 signing on in October.

 In Nutgrove, there was a fall of 85 with 2,181 signing on in September and 2,096 signing on in October.

 Among the under-25s, there was a drop of eight with 109 signing on in September and 101 signing on in October.

In Ballyfermot, there was a decrease of 75 with 1,621 signing on in September and 1,546 in October.

Among the under-25s there was a decrease of 25 with 244 signing on September and 219 in September.

 In Clondalkin, there was a drop of 152 with 3,260 signing on in September and 3,108 signing on in October.

Among the under-25s, there was a drop of 34 with 384 signing on in September and 350 in October.

Among the under-25s, the numbers were down by 14 with 398 signing on in August and 384 signing on in September.

Nationally, on a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total remains unchanged between September 2019 and October 2019 at 188,700; this is the lowest number recorded in the seasonally adjusted series since February 2008.

In unadjusted terms there were 180,459 persons signing on the Live Register in October 2019. This represents an annual decrease of 18,788 (-9.4 per cent) since October 2018.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register showed a monthly decrease of 700 (-0.7 per cent) for males in October 2019, while females increased by 700 (+0.8 per cent) over the same period.

On an unadjusted basis, the number of male claimants decreased by 11,436 (-10.2 per cent ) to 100,961 in the year to October 2019, while female claimants decreased by 7,352 (-8.5 per cent ) to 79,498. This compares with an annual decrease in the year to October 2018 of 23,571 (-17.3 per cent ) to 112,397 for males, while female claimants decreased by 13,674 (-13.6 per cent) to 86,850 in the same period.
