Delany to skipper Ireland in clash with Dutch

LAURA Delany from Knocklyon will captain the Ireland Women’s cricket team at the upcoming international series against Netherlands at Malahide.

Comprising of four T20 Internationals played between July 26-30, the contest will mark the second T20I series at home in 2021 for Ireland Women following their 3-1 series victory over Scotland in May at Stormont.

Bohernabreena woman Mary Waldron has returned from Australia and is in line to play her first international for Ireland in almost two years.

Netherlands was the first international side Ireland Women faced in their maiden internationally-capped match in 1983 (a One-Day match won by Netherlands).

In the T20 format, Ireland women and the Dutch have met eight times, with Ireland winning on seven occasions, and one no result.

The two sides are heading to Spain for the T20 World Cup European Qualifier which will see Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, France, Germany and Turkey battle it out for the one available spot in the T20 World Cup global qualifying tournament.
