Detailed update on Lucan swimming pool planned for next council meeting

SOUTH Dublin County Council will have a detailed update on the opening of Lucan swimming pool at the next monthly council meeting.

“It should bring a bit if finality to the timeline,” said Colm Ward, SDCC chief executive at the meeting.

The long awaited pool has come in for criticism over the length of time it has taken to open in the community.

Cost for swimming at Aura Leisure Services pool in Lucan, which is due to open this summer, also came under fire a few weeks ago for being “much higher” than in Tallaght or Clondalkin.

Trying to find the cost of swimming classes and ‘Pay as You Go’ at 11 Aura leisure centres in Ireland including Lucan, is more difficult this week on their website.

Aura Leisure Services won the contract from South Dublin County Council to manage the new €20m Lucan Leisure Campus.

Cllr Paul Gogarty (Ind) said the pricing a few weeks ago does not reflect the public element.

The new facility will employ between 35-40 people between full and part-time contracts.

It is located at Griffeen Valley Park, and will comprise a new state of the art public swimming pool, fitness gym, health suite, café and exercise studios.
