EIGHT students from the local community around Nangor Road, where the main Baileys production facility is located, have received special scholarship awards in recognition of their academic achievements and commitment to education.

The Baileys Scholarships Awards, now in their third year, were presented at a reception in the Baileys plant last week.

The awards were granted to post-leaving Cert students within the local community, nominated by their teachers, on the basis of their resilience in overcoming personal obstacles to advance their educational and personal development.

The Baileys team began the awards as an opportunity to give back and recognise the hard work and determination of the students.

Eight separate awards were made with each winner receiving a certificate and MacBook laptop in recognition of their exemplary work. In addition, a separate award was made to two students who have gone on to pursue studies in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) subject.

One overall winner was chosen, receiving a special €2000 award over two years to contribute towards their education development.

The winners were: Stem award winner, Shifa Matber, Coláiste Bríde, Clondalkin; Stem award winner, Kimberley Coker, Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School, Drimnagh; Eva Magee, Mercy Secondary School, Inchicore; Kian Barry, St. John’s College, Ballyfermot; Laetitia Ajavon, Coláiste Bríde, Clondalkin; Abbie McMahon, Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School, Drimnagh; Delia Antonio, Caritas College, Ballyfermot and Louise Elliott, Rosary College, Crumlin.

Laetitia Ajavon from Coláiste Bríde was announced as the overall winner and recipient of the €2,000 bursary.

Her teachers praised Laetitia’s grit, determination and hard work which enabled her to achieve excellent results in the face of many obstacles and continue her studies in Business and Marketing in Maynooth.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste, attended the event and extended his congratulations to the recipients.

He said: “I am delighted to acknowledge the special role all these young people play, not only in their schools, but in their vibrant and diverse communities as well.

“I want to congratulate all the award recipients for their tremendous achievement.

“Your dedication and determination to your studies, sometimes despite significant challenges, has stood out among your peers as truly exceptional.

“I was particularly struck, while I listened to the teacher’s testimony of each recipient, how their positive attitude and kindness equally matched their academic prowess.

“As you move forward in your lives, I hope you continue to foster this propensity for both kindness and care for your community.

“I have no doubt that we will hear more about their successes in the near future.”
