Development of shopping centre in Lucan planned

By Hayden Moore

THE development of an extension to Lucan Shopping Centre is being sought with plans that include the provision of two new units.

ERF Lucan Investment DAC has lodged a planning application with South Dublin County Council to construct a new two-storey extension to the popular shopping centre for commercial purposes.

Unit one has been earmarked for a retail unit with a floor space of 1,057 sq m while unit two will be used for professional services, a health centre or gym with a floor space of 517 sq m.

Along with this, the applicant is also hoping to develop a new mini-plaza with the new shop fronts arranged around it and a canopy overhead to allow customers to walk between the existing shopping centre and the proposed extension under cover.

The development will also consist of roof plant and PV panels, with Lucan advertising signage (50 sq m) and other indicative illuminated signage zones also included.

A reconfigured customer car-park with vehicle-charging infrastructure, stand-alone substation and associated landscaping make up the rest of the application.

The existing shopping centre includes 23 units, with Dunnes Stores and SuperValu as anchor tenants.

The applicant identified the need for additional retail and associated accommodation on the site as a result of approaches from prospective tenants.

This is how the decision to extend the existing shopping centre was determined.

The closing date for submission is July 26 with a decision due from the council on August 15, 2021.
