DFB remind motorists about dangers of ‘rubbernecking’ after Citywest truck fire
This morning’s truck fire on the Naas Road outbound at Citywest caused significant delays as firefighters tackled the blaze, and this afternoon Dublin Fire Brigade have reminded motorists about the dangers of not watching the road when passing incidents like the one this morning.
The fire was reported at around 8:30am, and although there were heavy delays as the road was closed outbound, there were also considerable delays on the inbound carriageway as drivers slowed or stopped to look at the fire.

A spokesperson for DFB speaking this afternoon said: “Incidents like this can often cause problems on the unaffected carriageways caused by drivers rubbernecking and not paying attention to their driving.
“This often causes RTCs (road traffic collisions) bringing the whole area to a halt.
“We ask drivers unaffected by the incident to pay full attention to their driving in the interests of everyone’s safety.”
The truck that went on fire spilled diesel onto the road, and foam was used to help break down the oil, which made the surface less slippery when the road reopened.
It was another busy weekend for the emergency services across the capital, with DFB reporting that their 12 ambulances responded to 368 emergency calls
