‘Do not drive any vehicle without full insurance’

A DELIVERY driver is appealing a disqualification from driving at Tallaght District Court.

Jiao Jian (33), of Avonbeg Park, Tallaght, appeared before court charged with having no motor vehicle insurance.

Garda Neil O’Reilly told the court that on March 17, 2025 that he stopped a vehicle on Avonbeg Road and the accused failed to produce insurance.

Defence solicitor Eddie O’Connor said his client works for a Chinese takeaway doing deliveries, has a Chinese driver’s licence, and bought a car which had an English registration at the time.

Judge Patricia McNamara found it difficult to believe that the defendant got a car with an English registration and was just driving it to charge the battery.

Judge McNamara disqualified Mr Jian from driving for six months and fined him €450 with five months to pay.

“Do not drive any vehicle without full insurance. When you are a provisional learner you need a full licence,” said the Judge.

Mr Jian, who appeared with the aid of an interpreter, is appealing the decision.

A recognisance of €200 was lodged with the court.
