LOCAL athletes made the podium at the Irish Life Health AAI Games in Abbotstown last weekend.

Donore Harriers star John Travers outsprinted Kieran Kelly of Raheny Shamrocks to take the Men’s 1500m title in a time of 3:46.74.

It was a fine performance especially when considering the fact that his closest rival had produced a performance good enough for a club record.

Travers clubmate Daragh Fitzgibbon clocked 8:24.70 on his way to fourth place in the Men’s 3000m event with DSD’s Robert Corbally two places further back

Clearing a distance of 11.01, another Donore athlete Lynda Ngankam emerged runner-up from the Women’s Triple Jump contest.

DSD’s Sinead Denny and Bandon’s Phil Healy served up a brilliant battle in the Women’s 400m Final, with the former having to settle for second place, just .04 of a second off the winner.

In a thrilling contest, Tallaght Athletic Club’s Eoin Doherty just missed out on the Men’s 60m Sprint title, clocking 6.99 seconds, just off the pace set by winner Raymond Walsh in 6.97.

Also in this line-up, DSD’s Mark Kavanagh finished up fifth in 7.04 while his Dundrum clubmate David Gillick took third place in the Men’s 200m in 22.30.

Another of the Tallaght contingent, Joseph Lyons, came home fourth in the Men’s 800m in a time of 1:56.80 while in the Men’s 60m Race Two, Tallaght accounted for the second and fifth place finishers Doherty and Joseph Ojewumi, with DSD’s Mark Kavanagh in sixth.

Katie Berney of DUD finished up seventh in the Women’s 60m, clocking a time of 7.83 seconds.
