Drimnagh Castle crowned League champions

DRIMNAGH Castle stormed back from a goal down to beat Presentation Bray 7-1 and subsequently raise the Leinster Under 17A League title in Wayside on Thursday.

The team, which emerged winners of South Dublin and is now looking ahead to the county decider later this month, was 4-1 up at the halftime break in the Leinster final and refused to let up in the second half.

Dylan Kearns emerged with a hat-trick to his name while Jason Whelan hit a brace and Clayton Walsh and Victor Godfrey also got in on the scoring act.

The win ended an impressive campaign by the Drimnagh side that included victories over Piper’s Hill, Naas and St Aidan’s in the quarter- and semi-finals respectively.

What’s more, the win also served to bridge an 18-year gap since the school had last won this prize, sparking huge celebrations.

Under managers Don Tierney and John Lawlor, the team boasts a handful of League of Ireland players, including captain Ryan Burke of St Pat’s.
