Driver fined €450 and banned for three years

A DRIVER who was found drunk in charge of his car on Butterfield Avenue in Rathfarnham has been put off the road for three years by Tallaght District Court.

The driver, John O’Hara, was also fined  €450 by Judge Patricia McNamara.

Garda John Paul Dalton told the court that at 2.20am on March 23 last, he came across O’Hara sitting in a car on Butterfield Avenue.

He said the key was in the ignition and O’Hara was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle. He said O’Hara later gave a blood sample to a doctor at Rathfarnham Garda Station.

Garda Dalton said O’Hara’s alcohol/blood level was 180mg/100ml.

He said O’Hara had never come to the attention of the gardai.

O’Hara, aged 29, with an address at Carriglea Court, Firhouse, pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a vehicle at Butterfield Avenue, Rathfarnham, on. March 23, 2018.

O’Hara’s counsel, Stephen Montgomery Bl, said his client works part-time in a warehouse. He said that on the date in question O’Hara had an argument with his girlfriend and had a lot to drink.

Judge McNamara fined O’Hara €450 and banned him from driving for three years.
