DSD and Gregan tops in NL Finals

DUNDRUM South Dublin Athletic Club retained their GloHealth National League Premier title in Tullamore on Sunday, while Tallaght’s Brian Gregan was the star for Clonliffe Harriers as they again captured the men’s equivalent.

DSD coasted to their sixth women’s Premier crown in a row, taking victory in six of the day’s events.

Standout performers on the day included Sinéad Denny, who won the 400m in a time of 54.57 seconds, as well as helping the 4x400m relay team to second place, while Grace O’Rourke took the 800m event in 2:23.63, and was also the victor in the high jump, after clearing a height of 1.60m.

Fiona Clinton took top honours in the 3000m event with a time of 10:23.96 before the 4x100m relay team emerged victorious in 47.97.

DSD finished with a total of 101 points, seven clear of second place St. Abban’s, while in the Men’s Premier class, Clonliffe tallied 120 points on the way to the title, 9.5 points ahead of Irishtown-based Crusaders.

Gregan spearheaded their charge as he took the 200m honours in 21.37 seconds, and won the 400m by a full second, in a time of 47.83.

He also anchored Clonliffe Harriers 4x400m team as they finished second.

In Division One Women’s competition, Donore Harriers finished in third place, level with Kerry Athletics on 87 points but snagging the podium spot on a countback.

Harriers’ athletes Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill and Lara O’Byrne achieved second place finishes in the 3000m and the 100m hurdles respectively, while Clodagh Martin finished third in the 400m hurdles, and Anne Gormley also took third in the 1500m walk event.
