Dublin Fire Brigade extinguish car fire on pedestrian bridge at Tymon Park

DUBLIN Fire Brigade (DFB) was called to a car fire on the pedestrian footbridge over the M50 at Ballymount/Tymon Park last night.
The Echo this morning visited the bridge which, linking both sides of Tymon Park, has experienced extensive fire damage.
As seen in this image from DFB, a car was set alight on the bridge, which is a busy pedestrian and cyclist route for people in the local area.

South Dublin County Council is this morning at the scene and assessing the damage from a health and safety point of view.
According to DFB, they received a call at around 10.30pm last night (Wednesday), with one fire engine attending the scene.
The bridge is located at the Kilnamanagh end of Tymon Park
The lanes directly underneath the bridge were closed by M50 services and Garda Roads Policing until the fire was extinguished by firefighters from Tallaght Fire Station.
At around 11.30pm last night, the affected lanes were reopened.
In a comment to The Echo, a spokesperson for South Dublin County Council said: “A car was burnt out on pedestrian bridge at Tymon Park on M50 at the Kilnamanagh end last night.
“Our parks staff have reported the burnt out car to the litter warden to arrange removal.
“The park department are going to arrange to place a bollard at the entrance to prevent vehicular access to the bridge.”
The spokesperson added that the bridge is today being cleaned.
The parks department has also requested that an engineer inspect the bridge.
