Dublin Lions finally get off the mark in Super League
DUBLIN Lions finally got off the mark in the Men’s Super League when they beat second-from-bottom Moycullen 63-48.
In what was a good weekend for the club that also saw a further two teams progress through to their respective Boys Dublin Cup Finals, the Lions seniors ran out 15-point winners against Moycullen in Colaiste Bride on Saturday.

It marked their first league win in 17 attempts, but Head Coach Rob White always felt it was coming.
“In our previous match against Moycullen we led the whole way up until the last three minutes” he told The Echo.
“It was a similar case in in this fixture except for the end result. We were up by 18 with four minutes to go and eventual won by 15” he said.
Finn Hughes was in fine form for the Clondalkin side registering 17 points and 16 rebounds with Oisin Rice weighing in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
James Gormley also made his mark for the hosts with some five dunks that helped maintain his side’s momentum in this game.
White will be hoping his side can build on their long-overdue win when they make the long trip to Killorglin this Saturday.
“Killorglin away will be tough” he stressed. “They beat us by about 20 when we met them last, but we had been level with them up until the closing four minutes.
“I think that has been the problem with us, not having that mental strength for the full 40 minutes, but last Saturday we managed to get the job done.
“But a couple of things about our team- the average age of our side is 19 so we’re the youngest in the league.
“And we’re the only team without a professional player. Jarrett Gray, Conroy Baltimore and Romonn Nelson all left. We were the youngest team when they were there, but now were the youngest team by a long way” he pointed out.
While the Dublin Lions seniors were chalking up their first win of the season, the club’s Under 14 and 13 boys teams secured further passage through to their respective Dublin Cup Finals.
The former beat a Templeogue side to whom they had lost heavily in the league, subsequently setting up a decider against Liffey Celtics as they bid to defend the prize they won last year.
The club’s Under 13 boys, meanwhile, carded a 43-30 point victory over Éanna to set up a clash with either Templeogue or Tarus in the final.
The Lions Under 16 boys are set to meet Éanna in their Dublin Cup semi final in Colaiste Bride tomorrow evening while the Under 18s will take on Marian in the last four.
