
DUBLIN: Man arrested after shop staff threatened with hammer and woman assaulted
A man has been arrested following a terrifying incident in Dublin this afternoon in which he was apprehended by members of the public after he threatened staff at a shop and then assaulted a passer-by.
The 29-year-old man raided a shop in Santry at approximately 1:20pm and threatened a staff member with a hammer before an altercation broke out.
The thief left the store on the Swords Road and assaulted a female motorist. The woman received minor injuries.
The robber was then subdued by staff from the shop and passers-by, who held him until Gardai arrived.
In a statement released tonight, a Garda spokesperson said: “The man was arrested and was then conveyed to Ballymun Garda Station, where he is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 as amended.
“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact Ballymun Garda station on 01 6664000.”
