E-bikes, scooters, scramblers, cash and drugs seized

A SEARCH operation targeting individuals involved in crime utilising electric modes of transport took place in Clondalkin and Ballyfermot today, March 14. 

According to a Garda statement issued, the ‘primary focus of the operation was the unlawful use of e-bikes, scramblers and e-scooters, which has caused potential harm and disruption to members of the Clondalkin and Ballyfermot communities’.

During the course of the operation, two electric scooters were seized, 10 electric bikes, two stolen high-powered motorbikes, five scrambler/motorbikes and one quad bike.

Also seized was €8,800 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, €36,000 cannabis herb and €4,800 alprazolam tablets. 

Gardai said that during the operation, a man in his twenties was arrested and is currently detained pursuant to Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in West Dublin.

The operation was co-ordinated by gardai attached to Clondalkin and Ballyfermot Garda stations supported by specialist and intelligence units attached to the DMR Metropolitan Region targeting individuals involved in crime utilising electric modes of transport.

Chief Superintendent McNulty of the DMR West Division said that “the actions of gardai in this operation is a testament to their ongoing determination in targeting those who are causing harm and disruption to our communities on a daily basis”.

Investigations are ongoing, gardai said.
