Plans are in place for a €2 million upgrade of Killinarden Park

€130k boundary wall works to start on Killinarden Park

THE PLANNED €2m upgrade of Killinarden Park is due to commence later this year, with a separate €130,000 worth of works to be carried out on boundary walls and fencing to combat anti-social behaviour.

Councillor Cathal King asked for an update at a recent council meeting for the Tallaght area, specifically requesting the commencement dates for securing the boundary to the park due to the “ongoing and unacceptable incursions” to the park by unauthorised vehicles, which have resulted in Croí Ró Naoifa’s playing pitches being left destroyed and unplayable.

Killinarden Park has been plagued by anti-social behaviour over recent years, with scramblers and other unauthorised vehicles driving on the public green spaces and on the pitches of Croi Ro Naofa. Three incidents of this nature have taken place on the pitches so far this year, and a total of 83 cars have been burnt out since 2018.

In their response to Cllr King’s motion, the council confirmed that the planned upgrade of the park is currently at detailed design stage and is envisioned that the tender for construction will issue in April or May, with construction to commence later this year.

Separately, the tender process for the erection of fencing and railings at the cul de sacs in Killinarden estate is in the process of being concluded. They added that the work will also include the installation of kissing gates which will prevent scramblers at these locations.

Included in the upgrades in the area will also be a 1.2m high railing which will be erected at Donomore Avenue and Donomore Park on top of the existing stub wall. According to the council, the estimated total of these works is €130,000 and once the contract has been awarded an order will be issued “immediately” for the work to be carried out.

The council added: “It should be noted that existing sections of railing are being targeted and breached in certain areas, to create access for scrambler motorbikes and stolen cars. Where these breaches are occurring, the fencing is being repaired and measures put in place to strengthen the existing boundary. These measures will continue to be implemented as and when the need arises.”
