
€7.95m Citywest library is granted permission
PLANS for the construction of a new €7.95m library in Citywest Shopping Centre have been granted planning permission by South Dublin County Council.
The development will consist of a change of use of a children’s play facility at part ground and part first floor level of the existing Citywest Shopping Centre building.
This is together with associated internal works of conversion and refurbishment and the erection of a new second floor extension with sedum roof on top.
This is to provide a public library that is arranged over three floors.
The ground floor works include internal alteration and conversion of the existing ground floor lobby.
The existing light and stair access will provide access to the two upper floors that will contain the main floorspace associated with the library.
The first floor includes of existing to provide public library space with ancillary staff and welfare facilities together with circulation areas.
Provision is also made for additional/new external ancillary plant to the rear terrace and PV panels.
The second floor includes the construction of a new second floor extension to provide approx. 635 sq.m of public library floorspace (GIA) together with a west facing outdoor roof terrace.
Associated external works include the provision of 16 short stay bicycle parking spaces and two secure long-stay bicycle spaces.
On July 19, South Dublin County Council granted planning permission for the construction of the new library.
The plans for the development of a new €7.95m library in Citywest were first unveiled at a council meeting last December, with completion expected by mid-2026.
County librarian Paul Fusco said the Citywest Library would be located in Citywest Shopping Centre and would be in the top internal alteration and conversion 20 largest libraries in the country.
