Olympics 24: Ellen Walshe into semis of 200m individual medley

ELLEN Walshe from Templeogue secured her place in the semi-finals of the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:11.81 at the Paris Olympics today.

Walshe finished in sixth position in her heat this morning and qualified 15th overall.

Walshe’s time in the heat was less than a second down on her national record of 2:10.92.

The 22-year-old, who is the Active South Dublin in association with The Echo and South Dublin County Council Sport Star of the Year, will compete in the semi-final this evening at 8.22pm.

Earlier this week, Ellen became only the third Irish female swimmer ever to make an Olympic final.

The Templeogue Swim Club member placed eighth in the women’s 400m Individual Medley in a time of 4:40.70.
