Eamonn shows his art and soul

EAMONN Callery joined an art class out of “pure boredom” three years ago and is now rarely seen without a paint brush in hand – and is taking part in his first ever art exhibition.

Living in Balrothery, Tallaght, Eamonn, who is 70 this year, is a prime example of how you’re never too old to shake it up and learn something new.

“I never painted anything in my life, well except the house”, Eamonn told The Echo.

“I used to be heavily involved in Judo clubs however, my age caught up on me and I had to step back.

“I was at home bored and looking for something to do when my wife suggested I give her painting class a go.

“I was very dubious going but after the warm welcome I got from the teacher and the other students, I decided to stay.

“Now, I’m painting all the time and I love it, I actually find painting very relaxing and I’m mixing with people of all ages that I wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to.

He added: “Painting has really opened my mind and made me realise that you’re never too old to learn something or find a new hobby.

I’m actually quite proud of myself and if I can do it anyone can.”

Eamonn attended stain class painting classes in St Kevin’s Family Resource Centre in Kilnamanagh, where there are adults and children’s classes held weekly by art teacher Anna Tyson.

Anna also holds oil painting classes in St Martin de Porres National School in Aylesbury.

He will be exhibiting his work alongside his fellow students in Castle Tymon Library in Tallaght from June 11 to 17.

The exhibition will be officially opened by South Dublin County Mayor Sarah Holland on Saturday, June 11, between 11am and 11.30am.
