PETER Somba held off Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock AC for a thrilling victory in the Lucan Harriers 5km Race.

Tallaght Martial Arts’ Cillian McArdle won gold in the -52kg division at the WAKO European Junior Kickboxing Championships in Turkey where Edward Comerford and Eoin Finn both scooped silver medals.

Also in action at the WAKO European Juniors was LJAYS Elite Martial Arts’ Josh Riddell who secured bronze in the -63kg Light Contact division.

Some 300 boxers from around Ireland and Europe competed in the inaugural Emerald Box Cup hosted by Westside Boxing Club in Tallaght Leisure Centre.

Shamrock Rovers’ Ike Orazi penned a deal with French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims after having helped the Hoops to a National League and Cup double.

Later in the month, St Patrick’s Athletic’s Michael Noonan and Sam Steward, together with Charles Akinrintayo of Shamrock Rovers, were all on target as the Republic of Ireland Under 16s beat Estonia 6-1 in Drogheda.

Lucan Sarsfields’ Abby Shiels and Hannah Tyrrell from Clondalkin were nominated for the 2023 TG4 Ladies Football All-Star Awards.

Tyrrell was later declared The Echo Sports Star of the Month of August on the back of her superb performance for Dublin in the All-Ireland Senior Football Final.

The Echo Team of the Month Award went the way of Round Tower’s Senior Ladies Football team after they completed a treble by winning the Junior ‘E’ Championship, League and Cup competitions.

Thomas Davis Junior Ladies Football team secured their third trophy of the season by defeating Na Fianna to win the Cup having landed the Go Ahead ‘G’ Championship and Division Nine honours earlier in the season.
