Echo Sport Preview Edition June 4

After the madness of May and all that comes with finals season, Echo Sport now moves into summer mode, but that doesn’t mean we are taking our foot off the pedal, no way! This week we wrap up the soccer season with the Firhouse V Crumlin 24 resizedNoel Ryan Cup Final between Firhouse Clover and Crumlin United, while we have all the action from Knocklyon United’s Tom Cullen Cup Final against Tullamore Town. Peamount United’s schoolboys were busy over the weekend as they welcomed both an U12 DDSL representative team and Biggleswade Town from England.

In athletics we speak to Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon winner and DSD Athlete Maria McCambridge about finally winning a race she has been competing in for several years, and there is also news from the All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships where a huge amount of winners returned from schools including Kylemore College, St Mac Dara’s Community College and Our Ladies Terenure.

Next up we speak to Walkinstown native Killian Callaghan who is quickly Killian Callaghan Table Top resizedmaking a name for himself on the World Mountain Bike Series stage, with the Under 21 competitor having had two top 10 finishes in the last two races in both Ireland and Scotland. After a strong start to the season Callaghan tells us of his plans for the future and what it’s like to race at such a high level.

It was a remarkable weekend for Stephen Smullen who returned with a gold medal from the ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships. The Newlands Taekwon-Do Club man was part of the team that took the Male Senior Team Sparring Division gold in Italy, to top the podium in what was memorable win for the whole team. Added to all this we have a huge amount of other snippets of sporting news for you to read, and, as always, we welcome hearing from you if you have any sports stories for us.
