Echo Sports Year in Review 2020: August

IN AUGUST many different sports made a triumphant and safe return following months of uncertainty, but it was football which really flourished as clubs and teams revelled in the chance to play their beloved game once again.

Sacred Heart Firhouse Clover capped off a stunning year in the Leinster Senior League by doing the double, securing Senior One Sunday and Major 1A titles in the same weekend.

Rovers V Dundalk ACTION 32

Despite having led Dundalk to the Airtricity League title the season before, manager Vinny Perth parted ways with the Lilywhites in the wake of their loss to NK Celje in their Champions League qualifying game in Hungary.

1. Tallaght v Glasnaion

Tallaght United capped off a great second season in the UCFL when they added the Richard Knight Cup to the Division One title and Challenge Cup after a 4-0 win over Glasnaion FC.

7. Paul McGrath and Paul OBrien 1913103

The FAI paid tribute to the careers of Inchicore natives Paul McGrath and the late Anne O’Brien with their induction into the Hall of Fame.

Cherry Orchard V Carrigaline 13

Cherry Orchard’s Under 16s lost out in their SFAI National Cup decider against Carrigaline United while Shamrock Rovers were undone by St Kevin’s Boys in the Under 14 SFAI Skechers National Cup Final.
