Echo Sports Year in Review 2020: September

SEPTEMBER saw a clean run for all sports as the GAA county titles where wrapped up with Wanderers ending a 52-year wait for Championship glory while Nadia Power and Louis O’Loughlin shone in athletics.

Nadia Power broke the 19-year-old Irish Under 23 800m record with a superb time of 2:01.01 as she finished third on the podium in Rovereto, Italy before taking gold at the World Athletics Continental Tour meeting in Zagreb.

3. Louis OLoughlin 1929376

Clondalkin man Louis O’Loughlin stormed to the 800m gold medal at the National Junior Track and Field Championships, breaking the 21-year-old championship record with a time of 1:50.89.

1. St Judes Snr 1 Camogie 2

A late blitz that featured goals by Leah Butler and goalkeeper Faye McCarthy saw St Jude’s raise the Dublin Senior One Camogie Championship at the expense of St Vincent’s.

Ballyboden St Enda’s lifted the Dublin Intermediate Two Camogie Championship title following their 0-9 to 1-3 triumph over Whitehall Colmcille.

7. Judes V Kilmacud Croakes 08

Meanwhile St Jude’s secured the Dublin Intermediate All County Football Championship crown with a clinical 0-19 to 0-12 display against Kilmacud Crokes.

Thomas Davis veteran senior player Ciaran Farrelly replaced Paul Kelly as the club’s Senior Football manager.

4. Dean Barry celebrates

Tallaght man Dean Barry carded his biggest win in MMA when he served up a stunning first round knockout to the highly-rated Abdulla Al Bousheiri in the UAE Warriors 13 show in Dubai.

5. Rowan Lester Connacht Stroke Play 2020 DSC00856

Rowan Lester of Hermitage Golf Club survived a final round surge by Kilkenny’s Mark Power to clinch the Connacht Stroke Play Championship.

6. Ballyfermot dela Sale V Wanders 15

Wanderers GAA Club ended a 52-year wait for an Adult Men’s Football Championship title after they saw off  Ballyfermot DLS in the Junior Two Football decider.
