Echo Year in Review: July 2023

THE country was in the grip of World Cup fever in July after the Republic of Ireland Women’s football team qualified for the competition.

The team was proudly captained by Kilnamanagh native Katie McCabe and she had the full backing of her community.

While their hopes of World Cup glory weren’t to be, there was no shortage of pride and support for Katie and her teammates.

A fundraiser was held in Neilstown to honour a young mother who died just weeks after marrying the love of her life in hospital.

A fundraiser was held in Neilstown to honour Nadine Lennon

Clondalkin mother-of-two Nadine Lennon died on May 5 following a diagnosis of stage four bowel cancer.

The 31-year-old married her partner Leigh Watters at St Vincent’s Hospital Chapel in April after being informed time was running out.

Mural in Tallaght Village

The landscape of Tallaght village got a new focal point, with the recent creation of a mural by local artist and firefighter Geoff Tracey, depicting two local blacksmiths from Tallaght’s past.

The piece features Jack Kelly and his son Hugh, also known as Cooser Kelly, who were local blacksmiths at Kelly’s Forge in Tallaght Village in the 1970s.

Caiden Molloy (8) launched the Irish Cancer Society’s Colour Dash fundraiser in July. 

The Ballyfermot United football player was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in December 2021. 

The Croft Nursing Home annual art exhibition was a huge success in July

The Croft Nursing Home in Inchicore held their annual art exhibition in Ballyfermot Library, featuring vibrant works by the residents. Such was the success of the exhibition, it was extended by an extra week at the end of July.
