THE distinctive sound and style of local bands The Eskies and The Hot Sprockets will be stomping onto the Glastonbury stage this year, after both groups were added to the line-up.

Started in 1970, the day after Jimi Hendrix died, Glastonbury 2016 is running from June 22 to June 26 and this year includes acts such as Muse, Adele, Coldplay, Beck, New Order, LCD Sound System, Underworld, Sigur Ross, Art Garfunkel, Cyndi Lauper, PJ Harvey, Band of Skulls and Tom Odell, to name but a few.

There’s also a good Irish contingent on the bill from Hothouse Flowers to Sharon Shannon and Roisin Murphy to Two Door Cinema Club.

However, here at The Echo we have our eyes on local bands The Eskies and The Hot Sprockets who have both been added to the line-up.

Playing to their own beat, both bands are energetic, different and festival-fit, and have a solid catalogue of songs that will get even the stiffest of Glastonbury-goers moving.

Speaking to The Echo, Eskies’ singer, and Kilnamanagh resident, Ian Bermingham said: “We’re really excited about Glastonbury, the whole band is buzzing – if a little apprehensive.

“The Hot Sprockets have also been announced, so Tallaght will be well represented!”

He added: “This is our first time to play Glastonbury but we have played a lot of festivals to date and this summer we have 20 festivals alone.

“It’s getting busier and busier every summer but we’re just jammed this year and are doing festivals here in Ireland, in the UK and Europe.

“We have a good high energy set, so I think that’s why we’re getting the festival bookings.

“We’ve also noticed that gigs are leading to gigs, which is great – it’s the traditional route.”

With the release of their album in the UK this August, a UK tour in October and plans to record and release their second album next year, life won’t be slowing down for The Eskies anytime soon.
