European gold for Super Adam
Adam Olaniyan secured gold at the European Championships at the weekend

European gold for Super Adam

THERE was plenty to shout about for Jobstown Boxing Club at the European Youth Championships in Croatia.

Super-heavyweight Adam Olaniyan came out tops against Misak Tepanyan from Armenia in the 92 plus kilos to create history for his club to become the only boxer to win two European gold medals.

On his way to the final, Adam overcame boxers from Poland, Turkey and Ukraine before beating Tepanyan in the final.

Adam kept the pressure on throughout the contest and in particular the final round as he helped Ireland secure their third gold medal at the games.

“This is Adams second time to win a gold European medal,” explains Jobstown BC coach Amanada Spencer who is also a coach with the Ireland team.

“He did a 14-week training camp, 11 weeks in Ireland, one week in France and two weeks in Croatia. He medalled in 2019 at school boy level so it’s a fantastic achievement”.

“I myself was also part of the team as an Irish coach. It’s a massive achievement for Jobstown Boxing Club,” added Amanda.

Meanwhile, female boxer Tiffany Spencer 48 kilo competed in the Europeans.

Tiffney beat an opponent from Aberdeen in the last 16 but lost out in the last eight to the current European Champion.
