Title success for Whitechurch boxers

Whitechurch Boxing Club’s Kyla Doyle won the 66kg European Youth gold by defeating Romanian World Junior Silver Medallist Amalia Tugui in the final in Porec, Croatia.

The bout ended 3:2 with a bout review confirming Kyla as the winner 5:2. Kyla beat the Turkish (4/1) and Italian (5/0) champions on route to the final.

This is her very first tournament for Ireland and she will look to return to Croatia in November for the World Youth Championships.

Club Secretary Phil Hollowed said, ‘We are so proud of what Kyla has achieved for her community, club and for her country; the work that the coaches in the club put into her is second to none.

“To come from our club, which is in a small school hall with no actual ring to the top step of the podium in Europe is testament to the countless hours that an extremely dedicated coaching group put into Kyla and all our boxers.’

Chulainn McDonnell celebrates his win with supporters

Chulainn McDonnell secured his first National Title with a 4/1 victory over John Mongans of Rathkeale, Limerick in the Youth 1 80kg Irish Final on Saturday in the National Stadium.

After an impressive stoppage win in the semi’s, Chulainn was involved in a barnstorming final bout with both boxers producing big shots in 3 all action rounds.

This was Chulainn’s 4th Irish final and the victory is testament to his hard work in the club and dedication to the sport.

Whitechurch Boxing Club is based in Scoil Mhuire National School in Ballyboden.
