A UNITED effort by the parents, teachers and pupils of St Brigid’s Junior National School in Brookfield resulted in a €510 cheque being handed over to the local branch of St Vincent De Paul this week.

The school’s active Parents’ Association organised a charity cake sale before Christmas, which, staged in the school, was supported by parents, teachers and pupils – with €510 being raised in donations.

On Tuesday, members of the school community gathered in St Aidan’s Church in Brookfield to present the local branch of SVP with the cheque.

St Brigid’s Home School and Community Liaison Officer, Orla Devaney said: “Led by the parents, the cake sale was a whole school effort and the money raised will go to local families being supported by St Vincent De Paul.

“The event really highlights the big impact the parents’ have on the school and all of the hard work that they do.

“It’s very important for the kids to see their parents taking part and volunteering, it has a very positive impact on their time in school.”

She added: “The cake sale also helped to introduce children to SVP and the great work that they do locally in the area alongside showing kids the importance of fundraising and helping others.”
