Family fun day brings a sense of community back to the area

A FAMILY fun day took place in Croftwood Gardens in Cherry Orchard last week, as part of the month-long Cherry Blossoms 2022’ event.

The family day is one of many events that is taking place throughout the month of April as members of the public are invited to come and take part in free community events including line dancing, a fun run and water sports and kayaking along the Grand Canal.

As part of the Cherry Blossom 2022 programme, the Wise Women group of Blue Door, an additional service provided by Cherry Orchard Equine Centre, chose a family fun day in Croftwood Gardens which included all neighbours doing a painting and clean-up day.

The event was funded by Dublin City Council who also provided paint and essential tools, a magician,100 Easter eggs and 100 goodie bags. The purpose of the family day was to build a sense of community back to Cherry Orchard after the last couple of years of social separation due to Covid.

Community staff, volunteers, community groups, local residents’ associations and environmental groups are all taking part in the Cherry Blossoms programme. Each group plays an important part in ensuring that people living in the area are connected to the supports they require.
