Family hubs for the homeless are currently all full

THE three family hubs for homeless in South Dublin County are currently fully occupied, according to South Dublin County Council.

The High Street Family Hub, at the former Abberley Hotel in Tallaght, has 58 rooms and is currently fully occupied with 54 households.

The Firhouse Family Hub, currently managed by Respond Housing, has 20 rooms and is fully occupied with 20 households.

The Springfield Family Hub, also managed by Respond, is fully occupied with 12 families in 12 family rooms.

Cllr Francis Timmons raised the issue at a recent council meeting, when he asked for a detailed report on emergency accommodation in the county and plans to deal with current and future needs.

“The council continues to actively explore further options for the provision of emergency accommodation across the county in collaboration with the Dublin Region Homeless Executive,” stated the council.

“The council’s outreach service operates all year around for rough sleepers across the county, working with other agencies, including the HSE, in identifying rough sleepers and connecting them with appropriate accommodation and support services.

“This service will also play a vital role in assisting homeless rough-sleepers during the winter months.

“In addition, the council is also committed to the provision of housing first tenancies where appropriate.”

The local authority also noted its Housing Delivery Action Plan 2022-2026, which outlines its approach to meeting the social housing delivery targets set for the council under the national housing plan, Housing for All.
