Féile double for Lucan

WHAT A year it has been so far for teams at Under 14 level at Lucan Sarsfields.

Having already won the Under 14 Division One hurling and football titles, the 12th Lock club claimed the Division One Camogie crown after a dramatic win over Kilmacud Crokes in O’Toole Park.

Sarsfields have played in the last nine Division One Féile finals, having won five and on this occasion they saw off Crokes by 2-1 to 0-3.

Both sides did register three scores each – but the goals proved crucial and it was Lucan who scored two – one in each half.

Crokes enjoyed the better start but could only find the target once – a point from Caoimh Nic Eachain in the opening seven minutes.

However the scores dried up for Crokes after this and they did not raise a flag for the next 27 minutes as Lucan picked up the pace.

Sarsfields got a big lift when Rebecca Flanagan capitialised on a defensive error to score a goal after 16 minutes. Before that Aoife Coffey had found a way through to score Lucan’s only point to pull the teams onto level terms.

On the change-over, Sarsfields struck a killer blow after two minutes – when a Crokes attack was penalised for over carrying and from the resulting free – Caitlin Maguire found Cora O’Toole who collected the sliothar superbly and finished in style.

From there to the finish, the Lucan defence were under pressure – a superb catch from Roisin Egan stood out as Kilmacud pressed for scores. Kilmacud’s Niamh Comerford cut the gap but Sarsfields Ali Dunne was on hand to deny the Stillorgan side a goal.
