A MOTHER who lost her six-week-old baby and her brother in recent months has organised a service in Bohernabreena Cemetery for families facing Christmas Day without a loved one.

Living in Ballyroan, Miranda Comerford lost her baby girl, Mya Rose, in May of this year, and five months later lost her older brother Gary.

Miranda told The Echo that every day is a struggle for grieving families, with Christmas adding to their sense of loss and suffering.

Finding Christmas hard to face, Miranda decided to invite families who have loved ones buried in Bohernabreena to visit the cemetery at 3pm this December 24 for an event called Fill the Sky with Love this Christmas Eve.

She told The Echo: “I came up with the idea and posted it on Facebook and hundreds of people have expressed their interest.

“A number of families have come on board to help me organise the event and we are hoping to reach out to people who are suffering this Christmas.

“We want people to know that they are not alone, and together, even though we are strangers, we can support each other and give each other courage to get through Christmas Day, while remembering those we have lost.”

People are invited to bring a balloon to release with a message to their loved one attached and a candle which can be lit and placed at the graveside. Lanterns are not permitted due to the graveyard’s proximity to farmland.

“I am finding this Christmas very hard to face,” Miranda said.

“However, I know that I will get support and strength from this service and I hope that anybody feeling alone at this time will join us.

“While I know it will be an emotional event, we will all be there to help each other and hopefully it will give people a little boost.”

Miranda has also encouraged people who have lost someone not buried in Bohernabreena Cemetery to attend the service, which will run from 3pm to 4pm on Christmas Eve.
