Five sentenced in Dale Creighton manslaughter trial

Five men have today been sentenced for their part in the manslaughter of Dale Creighton in Tallaght on New Year’s Day in 2014, with the menreceiving between seven and half years and three years.

Two other people were also handed down sentences for their part in the fatal attack.

Dale Creighton was assaulted on New Year’s morning 2014 at the footbridge over the Tallaght bypass between Saint Dominic’s Road and Greenhills Road.

The Tallaght man died in hospital the following day. The cause of his death was blunt force injury to his head and face.

Ahead of sentencing, the five men who are all originally from Tallaght, were told by the judge that they would be given a minimum sentence of 10 years each for their part in the attack.

Graham Palmer (26) of Park Avenue in Portarlington, County Laois was jailed for 10 years, with five years suspended, while Ross Callery (23) of Gortlum Cottages in Brittas, County Dublin was jailed for 10 years, with four years suspended, for his part in manslaughter.

David Burke (28) of Beechpark in Collinstown, County Westmeath was jailed for 10 years, with two and a half years suspended, while Gerard Stevens (27) of Grosvenor Square in Rathmines was jailed for 10 years, with seven years suspended, for his role in the manslaughter.

Jason Beresford (23) of Castledermot in County Kildare was jailed for 10 years, with four years suspended, for his role in the attack.

UPDATED: This afternoon Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy continued the sentencing where Aisling Burke (23) of Beechpark in Collinstown, County Westmeath was jailed for five years with four years suspended for violent conduct in relation to the attack on Dale Creighton.

Finally, James Reid (26) of Glen Aoibhinn in Gorey, County Wexford was handed a two-year jail term, suspended in its entirety, for possession of a knife at the scene where Dale Creighton died.
