Food delivery driver injured in alleged hijacking incident

A MAN in his 20s, carrying out food deliveries on New Year’s Day afternoon in Tallaght was forced from his motorcycle in an alleged hijacking incident involving a group of youths.

The incident occurred on Cheeverstown Road when the food delivery driver was allegedly assaulted by the youths on scrambler bikes with one of them driving away from the scene on the motorcycle.

Gardai, who are appealing for witnesses, later recovered the bike on the N81 and the injured man, who has since received medical treatment is recovering from the ordeal.

A statement released by Gardai this evening said: “Gardai at Tallaght are appealing for witnesses following a hijacking incident at Cheeverstown Road, Tallaght, on Sunday 1st January, 2023.

“At approximately 3.10pm a man in his 20s reported the theft of his motorcycle following an incident on Cheeverstown Road, Tallaght.

“It’s understood he had been carrying out food deliveries in the area when he was forced from his motorcycle by a group of male youths on scrambler bikes. He was assaulted by the group before one of the youths drove away from the scene on his motorcycle.”

Investigating Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly appealing to those with video footage (including dash cam) from Cheeverstown Road or surrounding areas at the time to make contact them.
