Speaking previously to The Echo, manager Graham Costigan said “With lockdown, I can see the change in the players and the effect on their mental health, so we thought it was a suitable charity to raise money for.

“I think everyone has been touched somehow from mental illness at some stage of their lives be it themselves, family or friends and know how important these vital services that pieta house provide are.”

The fundraiser received over 175 donations, bringing the total amount to €11,315 – more than doubling the initial target of €5000.

An official statement from the Facebook Page reads: “The lads have done it they reached the goal of 3750km and a full lap of Ireland, so proud of them all every one of them have given their all to this challenge because they really believe how good a cause it is for, and you would think they would be happy to have four days to spare after completing their goal but instead the lads have upped the target now to 4500km.

“Currently we stand at €11,315 raised for Pieta House and this is what it is all about folks raising money for this amazing charity.”
