Four Star Pizza apologises over rubbish on pathway

A PIZZA restaurant has apologised after questions were made at a council meeting about the way it accumulated its rubbish on the pathway outside its premises.

At the recent meeting of the Clondalkin, Newcastle, Rathcoole, Saggart and Brittas area committee, Cllr Eoin Ó Broin asked if any litter fines have been issued in 2022 to Four Star Pizza on Main Street in Clondalkin.

The reasoning behind Cllr Ó Broin’s question was due to the “egregious way in which the business leaves litter outside their premises”.

In response to the question, South Dublin County Council detailed that “there have been no fines or notices issued to this business in 2022” and that the litter warden would monitor the location.

Afterwards, the Social Democrats councillor told The Echo that the littering incident, which was pictured on January 3, “showed that Four Star had little regard for their impact on the village in which they are situated”.

Following the questions being raised at the council meeting, Four Star said that an operational error led to the business amassing its rubbish on the pathway in front of the store.

“We had a lot of Christmas and new year holidays, and we missed the email for the collection time for the bins,” a member of the management in Four Star Pizza, Clondalkin, told The Echo.

“I am sorry for that. That’s the only reason that this happened, the problem is solved now, it was a misunderstanding.”

The store claimed that the way it stockpiled the rubbish at the store in early January is not standard practice, with the rubbish typically stored elsewhere on the premises.

Litter warden for the council is also set to monitor and liaise with the waste enforcement team on the presentation of waste for this business.

Where evidence is found in dumped material, appropriate enforcement action can be taken under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.
