Friends of Paul De Ferriera show support with fundraising events

FRIENDS of young Clondalkin father Paul De Ferriera – who suffered a horrific head injury in a quad bike accident last October – have organised a number of fundraisers to support his medical treatment, reports Maurice Garvey.

Three events have been established by Paul’s friends Gerard Jacob, Keith Brennan and Stewart Goodall.

Paul’s father Ronnie Spadaccini (above left) has been trying for over three months to bring in a private Occupational Therapist (OT) for his son – but says this is blocked by “politics and resources.”

The father-of-two spent four weeks in a coma after the horror crash, and is currently residing in Tallaght Hospital, with round the clock care by staff, his wife, and close family members.

Paul is gradually walking and talking, but will require surgery for a prosthetic skull in Beaumont and the recovery is expected to be long and arduous.

The first fundraising event takes place on Sunday, April 9, at Insanity Fitness Pollyhops in Newcastle.

Keith Brennan said: “It is an outdoor circuit training session which begins at 11am, and tickets are €10. Everyone is welcome to attend – Jamie Gooney is the personal trainer.

“The second fundraiser is the 10k Virgin Media night run on April 22, which myself, Gerard and 10 of Paul’s close friends will be running.

“The third fundraiser is Stewart Goodall doing a 100km cycle around Wicklow mountains on May 20. All money raised will go towards Paul’s OT and rehabilitation.

“We will have a GoFundMe page shared across Facebook from April 10, and we all have sponsor cards.”

Any local businesses willing to sponsor, can contact Keith on 085 1261643.
