A DONATION page has been set up online to help the family of Megan O’Connor cover her funeral expenses – after the teenager died in a freak accident two days before Christmas.

The GoFundMe page, which was set up on Christmas Day by a family friend has a goal of €5,000 and has reached just over €2,431 to date.

Megan tragically lost her life after she fell on top of a glass bottle that she was carrying in her waistband, fatally severing an artery in her groin in the early hours of December 23.

Dublin Fire Brigade treated the 18-year-old at the scene on Sundrive Road in Crumlin and she was then transported to St James’s Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Mourners gathered in the hundreds at Megan’s funeral, where she was remembered as a life saver after she saved a woman’s life on board a Luas by performing artificial respiration while waiting on an ambulance, just two weeks before her passing.

Following Megan’s funeral mass in the Church of St Thomas the Apostle in Jobstown on Wednesday, January 2, she was buried in Bohernabreena Cemetery.

Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/meganoc to help the family cover the cost of Megan’s funeral.
