GAA Club host memorial match in memory of Neil

THOMAS Davis GAA Club celebrated Lá na gClub on Monday by holding a match and a minor free-taking competition in memory of two club members who recently passed away.

A memorial game was held on the club’s new pitch in tribute to Neil Davoren, an Old Bawn native who passed away in January at age 37 and was a player for the club from a young age.

A minor free-taking competition was held in memory of Keith Cusack, who passed away in February at age 44 and was a popular and skilled coach with a passion for developing ladies’ gaelic football.

In a Facebook post, the club described the day as “one of the busiest days in a long time”, with Lá na gClub being a national day led by the GAA that champions clubs and communities.

“Club members and the local community gathered to remember Neil Davoren for  his memorial game on the new pitch along with a minor free-taking comp in memory of Keith Cusack,” wrote the club.

“It was a fantastic day…for Lá Na gClub, and there was a brilliant turn out for the free-taking competition held by our ladies Minor B football team in memory of our dear friend Keith.

“A big thank you goes to the girls, and Tom and Laura Byrne.

“Well done to Saoirse Stanley on winning the Comp. Thanks to everyone who came and, particularly to Suzanne, who presented Saoirse with the Keith Cusack memorial cup.

“A special day for both Neil’s family and friends along with Keith’s family, as a club and community came together to mark this occasion.”

The uplifting day saw players don custom-made jerseys for Neil’s match, while the Sam Maguire Cup was brought up on the day and a ballad session was held in the clubhouse afterwards led by Thirsty Sessions.
