A GROUP of six club members from St Jude’s GAA Club in Templeogue will run 100k on May 1 to raise funds for the Blackrock Hospice in memory of their friend and teammate Mick ‘The Bull’ Fallon.

Mick, who was affectionately known as The Bull because of his strong build, passed away last January aged 49 after a long illness and he received care in the Blackrock Hospice.

A familiar face to many at St Jude’s, Mick played gaelic football and hurling and also coached for the club.

His friends and clubmates Clint, Dessie, Keith, Nev, Richie and Sean set up the 100k challenge, called The Mick Fallon Bull Run, in Mick’s memory.

Mick’s brother Sean told The Echo: “Mick was a big, strong fella and he was GAA mad.

“He played hurling and GAA, and played and coached in St Jude’s.”

When asked about how he feels about The Bull Run being held in memory of his brother to raise funds for the Blackrock Hospice, Sean said: “It’s great, and the hospice was great to us and they’ve been really impacted by the lack of fundraising [as a result of the pandemic].

“I think Mick would be delighted with The Bull Run because he used to do a bit of trail running and some challenges with the lads. It’s all been very well thought out.”

The Mick Fallon Bull Run will take place on Saturday, May 1, starting at 6am from St Jude’s to St Anne’s Park, Clontarf, and Rathgar at approximately 11.45am, then the final 50k leg will start at 12.30pm from Rathgar to Kilmacud Crokes, Woodbine Road, Marlay Park and then ending back at St Jude’s at 6pm.

People are invited to donate and take part in a 5k, 10k or 20k portion of the route on the day.

The event organisers have also noted that as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions, they can only have a limited number of runners at any given time, so people who are interested in taking part should contact Richie as soon as possible.

Donations are also being accepted on a GoFundMe page for the event at  MickFallonBullRun
