THOMAS Davis GAA Club in Kiltipper has started a new initiative encouraging people to shop locally over the next six weeks, as they want to “give something back” to local businesses.

The club decided to launch the initiative after seeing an ad in a recent edition of The Echo which encouraged people to shop locally and support local businesses.

In a show of support, the club will purchase a €50 voucher from a different local business each week to then raffle off to club members and members of the community who take part in Thomas Davis’ lottery.

Colin Brown, PRO at Thomas Davis, told The Echo: “We plan on doing a lucky dip on all club lotto entrants to pick the winner each week.

“The idea is to help promote local businesses and encourage members to shop local.

“Many of these shops and businesses have supported us over the years so we want to try give something back, in doing so helping to secure local jobs.”

In addition, the club will also utilise their social media pages to support local businesses, by sharing their social media pages and websites during the lockdown.

Club members are also being encouraged to show their support by liking and sharing social media pages belonging to local shops, leaving positive online reviews of the businesses, and buying a gift card or voucher or purchasing items online from local retailers.

“Supporting local businesses during these times could make all the difference to saving jobs in the long term,” added Colin.
