GAA Club to host match in aid of Sean Cox fund

IN A week’s time there will be a great evening of Gaelic Football when Round Tower GAA Club play the Irish Prison Service as part of the Eugene Garrigan Memorial Tournament, reports Brendan Grehan.
This year the game at Monastery Road, Clondalkin, will be played in aid of the Sean Cox fund.

Sean, a Clondalkin native and a former Round Tower player and former executive member with the club was seriously injured in an unprovoked assault while attending a Champions League Semi-Final in Liverpool last year.
Round Tower are urging their supporters and the wider Clondalkin and GAA communities to support the fundraiser to raise valuable funds to support Sean’s rehabilitation.
The monies raised will go to ‘The Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust’.
To date, the trust has raised €841,000 for Sean, who lives in Dunboyne.
Over the past number of months Sean has been taking small but important steps on a road to recovery. Sean’s journey will be a long and difficult one and the focus will continue on ensuring the best possible care to maximise the potential in Sean’s recovery.
He has recently commenced a program of rehabilitation in Dun Laoghaire and following this will continue to require ongoing and intensive long term care and support.
The throw-in for the match is 8pm. It promises to be a great evening of football in the best traditions of Round Tower GAA.
“Sean grew up in Clondalkin and represented the club for many years in a playing capacity and also at Executive level,” said Ed O’Malley, Chairman, Round Tower GAA.
“He still retains a very close connection with the Clondalkin community, with family still living here. We hold great appreciation for the excellent contribution he made to our club on and off the playing pitches.
“We are very grateful to the family of our late friend Eugene Garrigan who are fully supportive of his second memorial tournament raising funds to support Sean’s rehabilitation.
“The match presents opportunity for us as a club and the wider Clondalkin community to show our solidarity with and support for Sean and the Cox family.”
